Job Summary:
Reporting to the Sr. Director, Human Resources, the Compensation Specialist is responsible for overseeing and administering the organizations compensation programs including the annual salary review, annual incentive programs as well as the annual labor budgeting process. In addition to administering and maintaining the organization’s compensation programs, the Compensation Specialist will take a lead role in the updating, developing, and implementing compensation policies that align with strategic objectives. The position holder may provide comprehensive analytical and technical support to other HR teams as requested.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the annual salary review and annual incentive programs and oversee the implementation and administration.
- Support and guide the Job Evaluation process in the evaluation of jobs. Ensure documentation evaluation history and results, including the standardization of position descriptions.
- Work collaborative with the finance team and business leaders in the preparation of annual budgets by preparing and distributing the HR budget template to leaders and returning consolidated information back to finance.
- Provide advice and coaching to leaders on compensation programs and their application and assist in policy and guideline interpretation.
- Review, model, and make recommendations on compensation policies and programs ensuring they are aligned to the overall total reward philosophy.
- Monitor the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Complete compensation surveys and review the published results, identify trends and recommend changes or adjustments to ensure market competitiveness.
- Develop and maintain compensation structures.
- Provide technical and analytical support to other HR teams as requested.
Qualifications:
- 3 to 5 years of compensation experience, broader total rewards or human resources experience are assets.
- Post-secondary education is preferred. Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation or working towards is an asset.
- Must possess sound knowledge in compensation principles and processes, job evaluation, and market pricing methodologies.
- Possess strong systems skills including Microsoft Office products.
- Previous HRIS experience, specifically compensation modules.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including listening and negotiating.
- Have and engaging in a consultative manner and can build consensus among coworkers and key stakeholders.
