Position Summary:

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Data Architecture, the Data Architecture Business Analyst is responsible for working with the business and IT in analyzing organizational problems that involve data, reporting, processes, procedures, software and technology components.

 

The Data Architecture Business Analyst establishes an understanding of the structure, policies, and operations of the organization related to business opportunities, and facilitates work with functional leaders and IT delivery teams to identify, recommend, and deliver viable solutions.

 

In addition to supporting traditional elements of a project, the Data Architecture Business Analyst will focus on specific data deliverables including but not limited to requirements, data flows, data mapping, data migration and validation, and reporting.

 

This position will require a high level of engagement and timely delivery of detailed documentation as it relates to various initiatives.

 

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Assist the business and IT to define and understand detailed business requirements, capture current state business process, business scope, change objectives, constraints, dependencies, risks, and any future state processes that are impacted. Creatively connect technical and non-technical teams.
  • Conduct requirement gathering sessions/workshops, often with cross-functional business groups, to define business requirements and convert into well-defined user stories.
  • Ensure the clear interpretation of business requirements by defining and documenting detailed requirement specifications in the form of acceptance criteria so that the development and test activities are carried out successfully.
  • Support the technical team with documentation required in the software development cycle.
  • Support all phases of software development life cycle such as analysis, design, configuration, testing, and deployment of solutions, post-production support/maintenance, documentation, and end-user training.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of data integrations, data migration and validation, including documentation of data flow diagrams and data mapping across systems.
  • Analysis of large and complex data sets to gain an understanding of business process and solution impacts throughout the data flow.
  • Support the testing of new capabilities by suggesting test scenarios, developing test cases (including expected results) for SIT (System Integration Testing) / End to End testing that covers the validation of all system functionality, detailed data flows, how the new software works with the defined business process and any potential regression impacts
  • Document and communicate updated processes with business leads and transition to operational support.
  • Analyze, report, resolve data and data flow issues related to uniqueness, integrity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness to support both business goals and reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the development of a roadmap and related project plans for data governance strategy and reporting strategy
  • Support the creation, implementation and documentation of governance processes and policies for managing all data within the organization and assist with monitoring adherence to these policies
  • Create informative, actionable and repeatable data quality reporting that highlights relevant business trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Assist and advocate with building organization awareness on key data topics.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

 

Qualifications required for the position:

  • Degree or Diploma with equivalent training and experience, preferably in Business or Computer Science. CBAP Certification or comparable BA certification
  • Minimum of eight years’ experience involving progressively more challenging responsibilities in Business Analysis and IT system solution development. 
  • Advanced skills in MS Office applications like Excel, PowerPoint, PBI, Word, with expert level skills in Visio.
  • Experience in SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365 is an asset.
  • Experience with data migration projects, with specific responsibly for identifying and validating data across systems, is an asset.
  • Familiar with several software methodologies including Agile and Waterfall
  • In-depth understanding of organizational data flow and its use in management decision-making
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, execute tasks within planned timelines, and present ideas in business friendly and user-friendly language. Must be highly self-motivated with keen attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, inquisitive, analytical, results-oriented with a track record of timely high-quality deliverables.
  • Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, facilitation, conflict resolution and analytical skills.
  • Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment, comfortable working and managing relationships with project teams and business users, and quickly able to gain their trust, confidence and respect. Strong diplomatic skills and experience/ability to facilitate issue resolution and strong customer service orientation is a must.
  • Flexible and resourceful – able to adapt to changing priorities and decisions
  • Able to manage complexity and influence decisions with the maturity and confidence to interface with all levels of management
