Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Insurance & Fleet Services, the Insurance and Claims Specialist plays a critical role in safeguarding UFA’s assets and operations through expert management of insurance and risk-related matters. This technical specialist is the primary point of contact for all insurance and claims activities, responsible for end-to-end claims management, insurance program oversight, and risk mitigation initiatives.  The focus is to mitigate UFA’s exposure to risk through managing our overall insurance program and our claims to support UFA’s risk management objectives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on insurance and claims, providing guidance to internal stakeholders and supporting cross-functional initiatives.
  • Lead the full lifecycle of insurance claims management, from intake to resolution, with an emphasis on minimizing costs and timelines, while upholding fairness and integrity. outcomes.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve insurance-related policies, procedures, and best practices to support organizational risk mitigation.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of indemnity and insurance clauses in contracts, providing expert input during the legal review process.
  • Oversee vendor insurance compliance as part of the broader vendor management program.
  • Manage requests for UFA proof of insurance from internal and external parties
  • Lead insurance renewal strategies, including preparing underwriting submissions and evaluating coverage and premiums.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process enhancements, operational and cost efficiencies within the insurance and claims function.
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure UFA’s insurance and claims practices remain current with industry best practices.
  • Any other duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field; CRM, CIP, or FCIP designation strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in commercial property and casualty insurance, with demonstrated expertise in claims management and insurance program administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance principles, claims processes (including civil and non-insurable disputes), and risk mitigation strategies within a corporate environment.
  • Proven experience working with commercial insurance intermediaries and commercial claims handling for large corporate entities
  • Proven ability to interpret and advise on complex contractual language, including indemnity and insurance clauses.
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when managing sensitive or high-stakes matters.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS suite of Office programs.
  • Valid driver’s license, as some travel is required in Western Canada
