Job Summary:
Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Corporate Accounting, the Manager, Corporate Accounting serves as the second-in-command or the primary deputy for financial reporting, planning, analysis, and control activities within their respective area. In this strategic role, the Manager builds strong partnerships with key business leaders to oversee financial operations and gain insight into their objectives and challenges. They provide the guidance needed to ensure effective financial management and optimize financial performance. Through proactive leadership, the Manager drives continuous improvement across financial processes and systems while championing team development initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the integrity of accounting processes and systems, ensuring financial transactions are timely, accurate, complete, and compliant with accounting principles, internal policies, and regulatory requirements. Establish and maintain robust internal controls to protect the organization's assets.
- Manage the production of daily, monthly, and annual financial reporting that informs business leaders' decisions and satisfies internal and external compliance requirements. Develop and implement new KPIs and reports that sharpen financial performance and align with organizational objectives.
- Respond to time-sensitive requests from executive leadership, applying sound judgement to prioritize competing demands, gather and analyze the necessary information, and deliver accurate, decision-ready insights.
- Manage and coordinate the completion of ad-hoc requests, assessing the impact of new requirements and updating templates, models, and commentary so that deliverables remain accurate, consistent, and fully reconciled.
- Analyze financial data, variances, trends, and performance metrics to develop and present insights and recommendations to senior management. Support capital requests, business cases, and special projects; build and maintain financial models; prepare fully integrated financial statements; and identify financial risks along with appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Lead key aspects of the budgeting and forecasting processes, partnering closely with the business to build plans and explain variances. Oversee template preparation and execution, and consolidate data into clear, actionable summaries.
- Drive efficiencies across functional groups through process improvement and financial system enhancements. Leverage technology to unlock automation opportunities and advance the development of a self-serve reporting solution.
- Supervise and mentor finance team members, providing the guidance and support needed for their professional growth while fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture within the department.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of accounting processes, procedures, and internal control narratives, keeping them current and audit-ready to support consistent execution, knowledge transfer, and compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Coordinate and support the timely, well-supported completion of external audits, including preparing audit deliverables and responding to auditor inquiries.
Qualifications:
- University degree in accounting, finance, or business, combined with a professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience in medium to large organizations, including 3–5 years leading people or projects.
- Knowledge of the petroleum or agriculture industry, with thorough working experience in Canadian ASPE and/or IFRS.
- Comprehensive understanding of ERP systems (SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, D365) and their integration with reporting infrastructure (Power BI), along with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong financial analysis skills, with proven proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools, and a consistent focus on quality and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and translate complex financial concepts for non-financial stakeholders.
- Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a proven ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
