Job Summary:
Reporting to the Sr. Director, Construction, Environment, and Health & Safety, the Sr. Environmental Advisor is responsible for the management of environmental liability/risk at all UFA facilities. This position is unique to the enterprise being the sole resource for expertize associated with environmental risk. A significant part of this role is to plan, coordinate and execute environmental remediation projects, and supervise environmental assessments and monitoring activities.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate and execute of short and long term environmental remediation projects from conceptual design through to completion.
- Align all stakeholders to ensure efficient and effective execution of environmental remediation projects and ensure understanding of process and issues to those stakeholders.
- Perform environmental due diligence for property transactions, acquisitions and mergers.
- Act as a staff resource on EH&S Board and Senior Leadership Committee and to the Duty Officer program for emergency spill response as required.
- Manage the financial aspects of all major projects. Prepare and manage the yearly environmental remediation budget planning and justification, including the organizations long term remediation strategy.
- Manage external environmental resources, such as consultants and contractors and allocate project work as required.
- Manage and develop environmental scorecard reporting.
- Manage and close all environmental release investigations, conclusions and recommendations for improvements.
- Facilitate both desktop and “full deployment” physical on-site ERP drills.
- Stay current and make recommendations for any environmental regulatory Laws and Acts that impact UFA interests.
- Undertake ad hoc projects as required.
Qualifications:
- More than 10 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental site assessment and remediation projects.
- Engineering/Geology Degree (environmental specialization), hold a professional designation with APEGA preferred.
- Must possess effective leadership, coaching and supervisory skills.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and approval process.
- Working knowledge of environmental assessment and remediation techniques. Demonstrated ability to manage environmental assessment and remediation projects.
- Above average oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Proficiency in planning, budgeting and problem solving.
