Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Engineering, the Sr. Project Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of internal capital and expense projects from conception through to commissioning. This role will be responsible for scope design, site development, construction and commissioning, interacting with stakeholders on projects such as finance, real estate, marketing, operations, and IT. This role will be assigned projects as varied as retail stores, warehousing, fertilizer blending and storage, downstream petroleum bulk and cardlocks, typically with implementation costs typically between $5 to $30 million. This is a unique opportunity for someone with either an engineering or trade background with significant experience in construction project management.

 

The position can be located in either Calgary, Regina, or Saskatoon.

 

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Project Management functions include, development, planning, design phase, construction and commissioning of projects vary in scope, size and cost of +$10.0 M in value. (Note this function is similar to the Project Engineer with increased level of project complexity and value.)
  • Initiate project management plans and establish appropriate communications plans to ensure stakeholder engagement and agreement.
  • Development of scope and creation of budget cost estimates for projects including initial and finalize business cases and AFE submissions.
  • Manage and centralize reporting of internal capital and maintenance expense projects to internal stakeholders
  • Ensure internal projects and UFA standards meet all legal and necessary approval requirements (e.g. Development Permits, Building Permits, Highways, Safety Codes Council, Bylaws, Environmental, etc.). Represent UFA at municipal and public meetings and hearings as required.

 

Qualifications required for the position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years of experience in project management, construction, or a trade background with 15+ years of experience.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA.
  • Project Manager Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.
  • Downstream Petroleum (design, construction, maintenance) and/or construction experience in retail, commercial, or warehousing would be an asset.
  • SAP or other Enterprise Accounting System experience is an asset.
  • Able to work in a team environment and motivate team members and work autonomously without direct supervision.
