Job Summary: 

As UFA continues to invest in both new and existing markets, we are building a dedicated team to lead the delivery of large-scale agribusiness and petroleum capital projects. The Sr. Project Manager – Construction plays a key role in delivering on this ambitious growth strategy and shape the future of UFA.

 

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Construction – Strategic Projects, the Sr. Project Manager - Construction is responsible for the planning and execution of high-impact capital projects from concept to completion. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong oversight of scope, budgets, schedules, quality and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.

 

The portfolio will include strategic growth initiatives typically in the range from $5M to $30M, such as new bulk and cardlock petroleum sites, farm and retail stores, and crop input depots. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, this role brings these developments to life, ensuring every site reflects UFA’s commitment to excellence.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end project delivery of assigned capital projects including scope definition, budgeting, construction and commissioning
  • Shape project vision by developing scope, budgets, and business case inputs for AFE submissions.
  • Drive design and planning. Partner with consultants through design, permitting, and construction phases.
  • Ensure compliance and quality, overseeing adherence to legal, environmental, and UFA standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead procurement activities including tendering, negotiation with contractors, and finalizing agreements.
  • Monitor progress and mitigate risks. Keep projects on track with proactive problem-solving and clear reporting, ensuring schedule, budget, and quality expectations are met and maintained.
  • Champion safety and standards through regular site inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and health & safety protocols.
  • Mentor and inspire: Support project managers and team members as we expand UFA’s footprint.

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible construction project management experience.
  • Proven experience managing commercial or industrial construction projects from initiation through completion.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, budgets, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Expertise in construction documents, drawings, and current methodologies.
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across Western Canada (will include overnight stays).
  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with MS Project, AutoCAD, and SAP (or other Enterprise Accounting System) is an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or PMP designation is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
