Position Summary:
Reporting to the Transportation Manager, the Transportation Assistant role provides operational, analytical and administrative support to sustain an effective inbound transportation program. The Transportation Assistant will assist in selecting carriers, monitoring inbound shipments, contact with customs brokers and identifying and coordinating consolidation opportunities to ensure maximum efficiency. The Transportation Assistant is a key communication contact for DC and store related inbound/outbound transportation services. In this capacity the incumbent will be expected to assist in the maintenance of key performance indicators which clearly point out the effectiveness of the selected transportation providers.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Coordination and consolidation of inbound freight to maximize efficiency and reduce overall freight costs.
- Work closely with third party carriers, ensure that all inbound carrier freight costs are accurately captured and assigned to inbound PO’s.
- Direct contact with common carrier partners, DC Operations, Replenishment Coordinators and Store Operations.
- Collaboration with the UFA Transport team aiding with day-to-day operational tasks, holiday coverage etc.
- Maintain relationships with freight companies and accounts payable regarding billing and transport costs.
- Investigate and correct freight invoice variances for accounts payable.
- Maintain a log of all collect freight shipments and costing.
- Respond to internal UFA freight questions or enquiries as they pertain to the Edmonton D.C, and Inbound Transport
- Monitor and suggest improvements to the supply chain process
- Contact vendors and carriers to trace collect shipments to ensure on-time delivery.
Qualifications required for the position:
- Diploma and/or certificate in logistics or Supply Chain an asset
- 1 - 3 years supply chain and/or logistics experience an asset
- Retail transportation experience is an asset
- Sound analytical capabilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written and verbal recommendation and presentation of ideas.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and/or Office products
- Knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Dynamics 365 systems an asset
